Setting up dial-up PPP networking under Windows 95.

Verify that Dial-up Networking is installed.
Press the Start button, select Settings/Conttrol Panel/. Open Add/Remove Programs, select Windows Setup tab, select Communications, select Details. Now, make sure Dial-up Networking option is selected. If it is not, select it. Click OK. Windows might ask you to insert the Windows 95 CD.

Verify that Dial-up Adapter and TCP/IP are installed.
Press Start button, select Settings/Control Panel, double-click Network. Select Configuration tab. Both Dial-up Adapter and TCP/IP Protocol should be present. If they are, move on to step 3.
To install Dial-up Adapter click Add, double-click Adapter, select Microsoft. Select Dial-up Adapter, click OK.
To install TCP/IP click Add, double-click Protocol, select Microsoft. Select TCP/IP, click OK.
Now in your Network dialog box, should be both Dial-up Adapter and TCP/IP protocol. Select the adapter, click Properties/Bindings. Check TCP/IP box. Click OK.

Set up TCP/IP protocol options.
Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Network. Click on TCP/IP, click on Properties.
In IP Address tab, select Obtain an IP address automatically.
In Gateway tab, type in 216.96.38.1. Click Add.
In WINS Configuration tab, select Disable WINS Resolution.
In Bindings tab, select Client for Microsoft Networks.
In DNS Configuration tab, select Enable DNS. Type ns in the Host field. Type humboldtks.com in the Domain field. In DNS Server Search Order type 216.96.38.1. Click Add.
Type humboldtks.com in Domain Suffix Search Order. Click Add.
Click OK. Click OK in the Network dialog box. Click Yes and Windows will reboot.

Set up new Connection icon.
From the desktop open My Computer/Dial-up Networking. Click Make new connection. You should see Make New Connection wizard.
Call the new connection whatever you like, for example Nautilus. Your modem should be shown in Select a modem area. If it is not, refer to Windows 95 installation instructions on how to configure a modem.
Select a modem, click Configure. In General section specify the modem speed, making it as fast as you think your modem can handle. For 14.4 kbps modems this should probably be 57600, for 28.8 kbps or faster modems it should be 115200.
Please refer to your modem user's guide for additional info.
Make sure Connect only at this speed is NOT checked.
Leave alone Connection settings, defaults should be fine.
In Options make sure both Bring up terminal window after dialing and Bring up terminal window before dialing are NOT checked. Click OK
Click Next in Make new connection wizard.
Enter 473-2204 in the Phone number field. don't worry about area code in humboldt, otherwise enter 620.
Click Finish. There should be a new icon created in the Dial-up Networking folder.

Set up Dial-up Properties.
Select connection icon you just created. Click right mouse button and choose Properties.
Click Server type. In the Type of Dial-up Server click on arrow to open a list. Choose PPP.
Make sure Logon to network is NOT checked. Also make sure TCP/IP IS checked in Allowed network protocols.
Click OK.
Click OK in the parent dialog box.
In My computer/Dial-up networking folder select Connections in the menu. Select Settings. Choose the number of times you want your dial-up sessions to attempt connection in case something goes wrong, i.e. line is busy.
Click OK.

Dial in and get connected.
Double click the icon you just made in Dial-up networking folder.
In the Username field put your user ID. User names and passwords are case-sensitive, please be careful.
Type your password in Password field.
Click Connect.
If all goes well, you should see the Connected to dialog box. Minimizze it, or just leave it alone. Now you should be able to fire up those fancy Internet applications.

To make the Internet Start page your default home page, follow these simple steps:
1.In the View menu, click Internet Options.
2.In the Home page section, type http://www.humboldtks.com into the Address text box.
3.Click OK.
Internet Explorer 3.0 for Windows users

1.In the View menu, click Options and choose the Navigation tab.
2.In the Page text box, choose Start Page.
3.In the Address text box, type http://www.humboldtks.com/
4.Click OK.

Netscape Communicator users
To make the Internet Start page your default home page, follow these simple steps:
1.In the Edit menu, click Preferences.
2.Click the "Navigator Starts with Home Page" button in the upper box.
3.In the "Location:" text box in the middle of the window, type http://www.humboldtks.com
4.Click OK.
5.Now click the Home button in the toolbar.
Netscape Navigator 3.0 users
To make the Internet Start page your default home page, follow these simple steps:
1.In the Options menu, click General Preferences.
2.Click the Appearance tab.
3.In the Startup section, select Home Page Location.
4.In the text box immediately below Home Page Location, type http://www.humboldtks.com
5.Click OK.
6.Now click the Home button in the toolbar.
